Subjekt: Re:It is simply a question of priorities. Most major nations of the world have decided it is worth the sacrifice of additional taxation, maybe Americans aren't as interested.
Artful Dodger: I agree with you wholeheartedly...and with regards to """become a reflection of Britain with their excessive entitlement programs """" we also are the same. Over here you get a book when you register for the DOLE...and you must have at ;east one signature each week saying that you have been looking for work...but of course you have the university professors (or those that think they are) who think they are so clever, all they do is go for jobs they would never qualify for in a million years.....full of gab and NO getgo. Sound familiar??

Artful Dodger: yep....sounds as if you have lived in Australia......and probably the UK, and most other places as well that has welfare for bludgers to sponge off...

Artful Dodger: never a truer word spoken...it is the same here...you work hard to support the lowest forms of life....Kids who are spoiled by their parents and wont work and others who cry poor and get everything they ask for....Over here they join the forces...they take all in sundry.
Jim Dandy: australia has already changed its retirement age....it used to be 65 men and 60 women...now it depends on what year you were born as to how old you will be when you retire....we also have a compulsory superannuation scheme in which the EMPLOYER has to pay 9% of your current base wage, but this is going to increase shortly from what Ive read and the papers I get on "employment" There is also a scheme where if you donate $1000 per year the Govt will match it.....cheap savings for only a $20 pw. Also when you are of retiring age if you stay at work and dont collect a pension the Govt will give you so much extra per year towards your retirement. Can't remember the figures but it is something like $30,000 for an extra 5 years working, which is a damn site cheaper than the $12,000 to $14,000 per year you would collect on the pension.
I would like to correct a post I made....1st hung parliament since WW2 not WW1....it is up to either party to now woo the independants of which there are 4...I don't know what happens if neither side can get the numbers to govern...I don't think they would have another election, but then....who knows?
Artful Dodger: it will be interesting to see how the australian public take to a self confessed atheist...Joolya and she hates kids ROFLMBO....AND she is shacked up with her guy, so when she goes into Parliament house to live she will be living in sin...there will be a lot of firsts if she takes power (voted in)....she refused to go into parliament house until she was voted in by the australian people. (her words)...times they are a changing....One thing is for sure it wouldnt go down too well in "churchy" USA.
Pedro Martínez: yes but the 2 libs are vastly different I think LOL....but must admit to knowing nothing of american politics except there are a lot of idiots same as here....both in Govt and out of Govt.
Artful Dodger: oh well by the end of the day will tell us if we have our first elected PM in Julia Gillard, or Joolya as she has been nic'd or the Libs return to power.

Election day here today....what a farce..... do you vote for the party that was voted out 2 1/2 yrs ago, but I might add left millions in the coffers to enable us to get through the recession virtually unscathed and whose leader is Tony ABbot...OR, do you vote for the current party, Labour, who has our first woman as a leader but her predecesor Kevin Rudd, who has spent all the money and gotten us into debt....people think they are great because they got a "free" handout of a couple thousand dollars (which sent the country nearly broke) or do you vote for the Liberals whose leader is an idiot....John Howard resigned unfortunately :( We have preferential voting here which means you have to be careful whom you vote for as their preferences could be with someone you don't like :( such a cunundrum (sp)
Snoopy: yes and that wasn't from neglect either :( poor thing...but (V) will have an arguement against that because the UK is perfect according to him.....our health service is horrendous over here in ALL facets, not just dental...unless you go private you have just got to wait...a for instance that I know to be true....
Before my Vern died (about 5 years before) his eyes were deteriorating and he had cataracts that needed looking at...he was placed on a waiting list at the public hospital and died waiting:( there are still bloody great long waiting lists in most departments :(
Artful Dodger: hehehehe and I brush Bears teeth as well....he is 8 today, I bought him a squeeky toy LOL....just to add to the million others he has hahahahaha

Artful Dodger: yes and that is the same here.....lower class/lower income people have poorer health....to buy toothpaste/brushes only comes second to a cask of wine/grog...personal hygiene isnt something that a lot of the above have access to when they either live on the streets or in lower class housing where most essentials either aren't connected because they can't afford to connect them, again because the cask of wine/grog/beer comes first.

Snoopy and AD: Tooth Decay is a curse...some of our towns/cities have flouridation and some dont unfortunately....Only the people with money can afford to go private here, all the others there is a might waiting list...CHildren seem to have the worst teeth from sucking soft drinks (soda pops) thru straws....not enough water is drunk by the majority of the population, but then the flouridated water tastes foul anyway LOL...My tap water isnt nice if you drink it from the tap so I filter all water for cooking, and drinking. Makes it somewhat better to drink anyway :)
I have just gotten home from our local hospital after having blood taken for diabetes, I waited 1 1/2 hours to have it taken. They are so overworked it isn't even funny...Thank god I don't have tooth decay because it is a 18 months to three years waiting list to see the dentist at the hospital.
I have just finished relocating my home office into a new room that I have had built onto my house. I found the cutting from a newspaper of 2001.
America's Ugly Side</b>
The SBS program The Cutting Edge showed a 2001 speech by a British MP: "Since 1945, the Americans have bombed China, Korea, Quatemala, Indonesia,Cuba, The Congo, Peru, Laos, Vietnam, Cambodia, Guatemala, Grenada, Libya, El Salvador, Panama, Iraq, Sudan, Somalia, Afghanistan and Yugoslavia. How humanitarian can you get?" Why, then, do Americans wonder why they are hated? (signed) H Beneke, Gatton.
***QUOTE OF THE CENTURY,,,, Some people have the vocabulary to sum up things in a way you can understand them. This quote came from the Czech Republic. Someone over there has it figured out:
"The danger to America is not Barack Obama, but a citizenry capable of entrusting a man like him with the Presidency. It will be far easier to limit and undo the follies of an Obama presidency than to restore the necessary common sense and good judgment to a depraved electorate willing to have such a man for their president. The problem is much deeper and far more serious than Mr. Obama, who is a mere symptom of what ails America. Blaming the prince of the fools should not blind anyone to the vast confederacy of fools that made him their prince. The Republic can survive a Barack Obama, who is, after all, merely a fool. It is less likely to survive a multitude of fools such as those who made him their president."***
